Finding Rest

‘In returning and rest you shall be saved;
in quietness and in trust shall be your strength’

Isaiah 30:15

Welcome and Introduction

Meditative Singing

Come and Fill

Come and fill our hearts with your peace.
You alone, Oh Lord, are holy.
Come and fill our hearts with your peace,
Alleluia.

Our Darkness

Our darkness is never darkness in your sight:
the deepest night is clear as the daylight.

Psalm 92 (vv1-4, 10-15)        Interpretation by Nan Merrill

Alleluia, Alleluia
It is good to give thanks to You
O Beloved, to sing
praises to your Holy Name,
To affirm your gracious Love,
in the morning,
and your faithfulness through the night,
to the music of the spheres,
to the melody of the universe!
For You, Heart of my heart, gladden
my soul,
as I proclaim with joy the harmony
and beauty of creation.
Alleluia
You delight in my spirit and elevate my soul;
You bathe me in the oil of kindness.
My eyes behold the radiance of
creation’s glory,
my ears echo with Love’s refrain.
Alleluia
Those who live with integrity are like
a garden in full bloom,
whose blossoms beautify the earth.
They are planted in the dwelling place of Love,
their produce nourishes all those who pass by.
All through their lives they reap
bountiful harvest,
overflowing as a cornucopia of
the finest fruits,
Magnifying the Blessed Gardener,
living as sons and daughters
of the Most High.
Alleluia, Alleluia

Meditative Singing

Nothing can Trouble

Nothing can trouble, nothing can frighten.
Those who seek God shall never go wanting.
God alone fills us.

In God Alone

In God alone my soul can find rest and peace,
in God my peace and joy.
Only in God my soul can find its rest,
its rest and peace.

New Testament Reading and Prayer Reflection:   Matthew 11:28-30

“Come to me,
all you that are weary and are carrying heavy burdens,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me;
for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

Time of Silence

The time of silence will be brought to a close by the ringing of a Tibetan singing bowl

Meditative Singing

Come and pray in us

Come and pray in us, Holy Spirit,
come and pray in us.
Come and visit us, Holy Spirit.
Spirit, come, Spirit, come.

O Lord Hear My Prayer

O Lord hear my prayer,
O Lord hear my prayer.
When I call answer me.
O Lord hear my prayer,
O Lord hear my prayer.
Come and listen to me.

The Lord is my song,
the Lord is my praise:
All my hope comes from God.
The Lord is my song,
the Lord is my praise:
God, the wellspring of life.

Poem:    “The Peace of Wild Things” by Wendell Berry

Jubilate Deo – Raise a song of gladness

Raise a song of gladness, peoples of the earth.
Christ has come, bringing peace, joy to ev’ry heart.
Alleluia, alleluia, joy to ev’ry heart!
Alleluia, alleluia, joy to ev’ry heart!

Blessing

May God’s Spirit surround you,
and those whom you love.
Rest now, in that calm embrace,
let your hearts be warmed
and all storms be stilled
by the whisper of God’s voice.
