“my humanity is bound up in yours, for we can only be human together”
Desmond Tutu

St Andrew’s and St George’s West is committed to building community and understanding between people of different faiths. Faith leaders of local Muslim and Jewish communities have taken part in services here and we have been warmly welcomed at our local mosque and synagogue.

Book Group

Our Book Group meets monthly, on the third Monday of the month at about 10.30am in the Chapel in the Undercroft Café. This term (Autumn 2014) we are reading Finlay Macdonald’s new book Luke Paul and the Mosque which explores interfaith issues in contemporary Scotland. This an open group and anyone is welcome to join it.

Civic Cafes at St Andrew’s and St George’s West

Our Civic Cafes bring together different faith leaders and politicians. Civic cafes are a constructive forum to discuss issues of mutual concern such as debt, payday loans, poverty and income inequality.

Our diverse faiths share fundamental values of charity, compassion and community. We’re committed to campaigning and working together effectively for the common good in Scotland and beyond.

Cultural Events at St Andrew’s and St George’s West

We host cultural events that promote reconciliation and peacebuilding.

Annual Concert for Holocaust Memorial Day.

Artisan Trio performs Messaien’s Quartet for the End of Time, a piece which transcends the bleak midwinter of the German concentration camp where it was written and first performed, and reminds us that even in the darkest moments hope is never extinguished.

Rwandan Dream Concert, December 2013

In December 2013 award-winning singer-songwriter Jean Paul Samputu gave a concert in St Andrew’s and St George’s West. Jean-Paul Samputu is a survivor of the Rwandan genocide. He campaigns worldwide for the cause of forgiveness and peace and leads an NGO which supports child surviviors of the genocide.

Our doors are open to folk of all backgrounds and belief
