St George's Charlotte Square

In June 2014 we celebrate the bicentenary of St George’s Charlotte Square, the second church of the New Town which opened for public worship in June 1814.

We also celebrate 50 years of union with St Andrew’s Church since 1964 to form St Andrew’s and St George’s.  The magnificent Georgian dome of St George’s was crumbling and the building had to be rescued and became West Register House, a place to store and research Scottish records.

To celebrate 200 years we have delved into church and family archives and found some amazing treasures. These are on display for the month of June here in our Sanctuary at 13 George Street, along with the stories of remarkable people of St George’s from the last 200 years.

We’re usually open Monday – Friday 10am -3pm and Saturday 11am-2pm.
