Singing our way into or out of belief : the 2018 Donald Gorrie Lecture
Revd Dr. John Bell will deliver the Donald Gorrie Lecture for 2018. He is a member of the Iona Community who lectures around the world on issues of liturgy, music and spirituality.
John Bell was elected Rector of Glasgow University in 1977 while still a student. He is a Church of Scotland Minister and was convenor (and music editor) of the committee which drafted the Church of Scotland’s Hymnary (4th edition). John has produced numerous collections of songs and worship material. He is also a contributor to Radio 4’s Thought for the Day.
“What we sing is what we end up believing, irrespective of the calibre of pulpit oratory we experience. In this lecture, we reflect on how songs, traditional and contemporary, shape popular theology”.
The date for your diary is Tuesday 23 October when we can look forward to an informed, interesting and thought provoking talk.
Everyone is welcome – the event is free and there will be a chance to chat over refreshments afterwards.
