Composers in their Lives and Music
A series of lunchtime performances by young Scottish musicians – with biographical reflections.
Caitlin McGillivray, soprano Ian Y Gilmour, speaker
Jamie Lang, piano
Caitlin studied singing from the age of ten with Fiona Mitchell and continued with her throughout high school. She then studied with Joan Busby during her time at Edinburgh Napier University. She has worked at Mansfield School of Music in Musselburgh for six years, teaching piano and singing and has served as Musical Director for three shows with amateur musical theatre group Our Lady of Loretto Youth Players. During her time at University, she has sung with the Edinburgh Napier Chamber Choir and more recently with the choir at St Andrew’s and St George’s West. In the future she hopes to continue teaching and performing professionally.
Jamie graduated from Edinburgh Napier University in 2015 with a Bachelors degree in Music with Honours. Throughout his time at Napier he enjoyed developing his playing in solo classical performance under the tuition of Simon Coverdale and also in other areas such as chamber music and jazz. Since graduating he has focused on teaching and gaining experience in accompaniment with a view to go on to further study in this area in the coming years.
