Florilegium – Towards the Enlightenment

Ashley Solomon – flute/director; Bojan Čičić – violin; Elizabeth Gex – viola; Jennifer Morsches – cello

Florilegium, one of Britain’s most outstanding period instrument ensembles, present chamber music from Mozart and Haydn – two of the greatest composers of this period. Mozart has often been quoted as saying he ‘despised the flute’, but the two glorious flute quartets in this programme can hardly support this view with their delicate and emotionally crafted flute melodies. The ensemble will also perform arias from Mozart’s Magic Flute, arranged by an anonymous 18th century composer, and two of Haydn’s string trios renowned for their notoriously challenging string writing.

“Florilegium gave performances of brilliance … well thought out and finely executed interpretations” – Seen and Heard International
