Through a simple narrative, Billy Elliot reveals two huge contrasting changes in British society, the bitterness at the end of mining industry and the new tolerance emerging through artistic endeavour, dancing in this case. The tensions are unpacked within one ‘typical’ northern household. The acting, with Julie Walters and Jamie Bell is strong.
