2016 Donald Gorrie Schools Debating Competition

This annual schools debating competition at St Andrew’s and St George’s West Church in Edinburgh city centre encourages critical thinking and citizenship in young people. It was established in 2013 in memory of the late Donald Gorrie, MP and MSP and former teacher. Donald was an elder and member of St Andrew’s and St George’s West

To date, participants have debated hot topics including Scottish independence and sustaining community.
In 2016 contestants will consider legislation and climate change.

There are two competitions, a senior (S4-S6) and junior (S1-S3) which run concurrently on the night. .
