The Undercroft – a community café with a warm welcome

Opening hours Monday to Friday, 10:30 – 2:00 

Come and try our friendly Undercroft Café in the heart of Edinburgh for fresh, home-made food at reasonable prices.

For the next few months we have simplified our menu. You will still find a selection of scones, baked each morning, and a mouth-watering variety of cakes, traybakes and shortbread. There will always be some gluten free options.

Of course we have all those teas and specialty coffees that you love, as well as fruit juices and soft drinks.

If you are looking for a hearty lunch, try one of our delicious vegetarian soups, served with crusty bread.
We use Fairtrade and locally grown ingredients where possible.

Our staff are a mix of volunteers, trainees and professionals from a wide range of backgrounds. Many of our customers are regulars, and we are always pleased to see first-time visitors.

Cafe Assistant Vacancy.

We have an exciting opportunity to join a great team in developing a friendly and welcoming cafe in the centre of Edinburgh.

We are a busy community café operating within a city centre church. Our Head of Café Operations/Chef is now looking for a Café Assistant to join him in the general running and operation of the café, alongside our team of volunteers.

Working directly with the Head of Café Operations you will be involved in the management of front of house activities, dealing with a wide range of customers. You will deputise for the Head of Café Operations in his absence, including in the preparation of soups and hot food.

Working alongside the volunteers you will support them in ensuring a consistent standard of customer service. Other requirements of the role may include organising and delivering training, control and management of stock, volunteer rotas, some financial tasks.

You will have sound organisational skills and a proficiency in the use of Word and Excel with basic numeracy ability, a desire to provide a high level of customer service, and the ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of people. Basic cooking skills would be advantageous, but training will be provided. You may already have some experience of working with volunteers, and in catering/hospitality, or a desire to gain experience in this field.
