children and young people
Here at St Andrew’s and St George’s West all ages listen to each other, learn from each other and work together on projects. Here are some of our activities for children, families and young people.
Bright Sparks (Sundays from 11am)
Bright Sparks is our creative learning programme for children on Sundays. Working with adult helpers, children explore Bible themes through storytelling, craft and making to discover key gospel messages and characters. Children can then share their discoveries with the adult congregation and with the parish.
The Donald Gorrie Debating Competition
We value debate and discussion here at St Andrew’s and St George’s West. In 2013 we launched the first Donald Gorrie Debating Competition for schools in Edinburgh. Topics for debate have included religion as a force for good, the independence referendum, and legislation and climate change.
The 2018 debates take place on Tuesday 19 June when six schools will debate the motion “This house believes that social media is a positive force for democracy”
The Edinburgh Christmas Tree Festival
Children of all ages love the Edinburgh Christmas Tree Festival. The church looks amazing filled with trees decorated by local charities and businesses. You can spend ages looking at each tree, make a decoration for the children’s tree, post a Christmas card to help a person in prison and lots of other stuff. And discover aspects of the Christmas story to challenge and inspire you. Find out more about our the latest festival.
